Connecting Content: Between, Within and Among Subjects
In this day and age, the need for relevant connections within and between all subjects and all content is important in assisting students to become globally productive citizens. Providing opportunities for students to engage in developing and establishing integrative concepts is key. This strand will focus on sessions that demonstrate the interconnectedness of science topics with other subjects at varying grade levels.
Goals
To provide workshops and presentations focusing on:
• Modeling best practices for teaching and/or assessing integrated content
• Taking advantage of the naturally occurring intersections within content to create relevant learning experiences
• Engaging teachers and their students in developing a cross-curricular understanding of the content
Criteria
Proposals will be evaluated on the extent that they:
• Align with one or more strand goals
• Align with national science education standards (NSES and Benchmarks)
• Are based on current and available research and issues in science
• Involve participants through activities and/or discussion
• Demonstrate the interconnectedness of two or more subject areas at one of the NSES or Benchmarks grade band ranges
• Use best practices in the presentation and/or assessment of integrated content
